let the frosh week begin…

so here i am… university

well, it’s frosh week, so it’s not officially university yet, but it has been interesting so far, let me tell you.

hung out with jamie last night, and he did some wicked graffiti for my room which is currently up on my wall, then found out that i won a $1000 staples academic scholarship, thus alleviating me of my financial stress for the semester. after accepting the scholarship at the store, i picked up tubski and headed out to purchases a bed in a bag and some pillows in dartmouth crossing. this was followed by picking up my mini-fridge, then some serious packing and wine drinking. it was a good night and we woke up this morning quite pumped to move me into acadia.

got here at a little after 9, start move in, then frosh activities started; my residence is really wicked and the people are great… this is going to be a WICKED year.

met a girl named erin from london, ontario who is really cool, and i ended up hanging out with during the matriculation ceremony. i worked from 5-8, locked my keys in my car afterward, and brought some last-minute stuff back to residence where i’ve been basically all night.

they ended up setting up a slip ‘n’ slide down this hill outside seminary which they poured chocolate down, and made us slide down for intiation; at the end was a kiddy-pool filled with pudding, and there were people there to throw sprinkles and whipped cream on us… this was hilarious, i’ve got to say. we also got our frosh names, mine being “domestic distrubance #1 frosh”, and then we just had some time to hang out and do whatever. tubski, erin, and i ended up finishing set-up in my room, then we went downtown and ran into michelle (among many other people), got garlic fingers and ate them at the waterfront park at about 1 am… we then walked back to campus, and i’ve been in my room ever since.

i’ll post pictures of my room soon because it’s WICKED.

i’ve got to go to bed.

more about my life

so monday morning and afternoon marks a mental meltdown (that was a completely planner alliteration, by the way) of sorts; waited in line at the student accounts office to find out that i had everything straightened away, but owed an extra $1400… well, actually, $481 after my external bursaries, so needless to say i wasn’t pleased. came home with a gut full of coffee basically freaking out talking to my parents, trying to figure out how i can pull $481 out of my ass in a week along with purchasing books. my father made a surprise call to the student accounts office and finds out that the reminaing balance could be put on a payment plan, so i went in today with copies of my bursary certificates and got everything worked out so that i have up until december 15th (the day after my 20th birthday) to pay off the $481.

last night was spent at courtney’s with people hanging out and having a few drinks, it was a pretty good time.

so now that i have all of my money stuff settled and all that i have left is packing and buying books, i can finally say that i am relaxed about going into university… yeah, i’m really, really pumped about it all

i forgot about how much i love red hot chili peppers, thank god i’ve rediscovered said love and have finally taken the time to listen to “stadium arcadium”… such a good album, i’ve got to say

i work in the morning basically as a runner during the presidents of staples canada and USA’s visit to the store, then i have a week off for packing, moving, and getting into my university/residence groove… i cannot wait for saturday to come, actually, i can’t wait for friday because that’s when it’s all starting. picking tubski up on friday night, running some errands, then he’s helping me move in the morning; good times shall be had.

i have to install office for mac this week, i also have to find a good anti-virus to use for acadia… ahhh, so expensive; speaking of expensive, i hope i have enough money for books. ah. i’m not going to stress, it’ll all work out.

checking in

so this weekend was pretty good, i have to say… hung out with tubski, steve, and ryan on saturday night (including an apperance from steve’s girlfriend, karlie), on sunday tubski, ryan and i drove back to the valley and searched for about three hours to find three pools. after finally getting there, i realised that the people that were there weren’t exactly the most sober, nor were they giving off any good vibes, so we stayed long enough for tubski and ryan to jump off the rocks a few times, then we headed out to the look-off. this was followed by dinner at joes, and we decided not to head out to kingsport beach… i also showed the two around wolfville a bit, then we all just headed back to our respective homes at about nine that night.

right now, i’m getting everything together to head out to acadia and get my student loan stuff all worked out, then i have to call people concerning bursaries, take a bit of time to relax (maybe start on a bit of packing), then go to work tonight.

i’m actually pretty excited about the whole taking german thing; the last time i learned a language was french, and considering the fact that it was compulsary for so many years, it wasn’t something that i really enjoyed that much… god, five days until i move; no apologies for the countdown because i’m sure if you had a blog and you were excited about something like that, i would be hearing you count down as well.

time to brush my teeth… awww yeah.

i have thwarted you, first year english

today wasn’t a bad day at work, in fact it went by rather quickly; it also helped having logan working today so we were able to take our breaks together

this afternoon i noticed an email from acadia in my inbox telling me that because of my AP english mark, i am exempt from first year english, so they went ahead and removed me from the course, credited me for it, and informed me that i would have to take another course to fulfill the arts core. so now my schedule is a little bit more relaxed and i’m in german instead of english… woo, intro to german is going to be a wild ride

on another note, i was supposed to be in a commercial for the NDP today after i got off of work, but i was informed today that the shoot had been moved to a community college out in halifax, so i wouldn’t have able to make it. kind of sucks that the commercial is out the window, but it’s freed up my afternoon allowing me just to relax

going to sackville tonight, surprise, surprise

i think i’m going to take a nap

quickly updating before i turn in for the night

so a ten hour shift quickly turned into an elven and a half hour shift, but that’s more than alright because it means money in the bank come next payday, and i now have my breaks schedule written up for tomorrow… it’s only me on breaks tomorrow from 9:45-8 and i have a lot to cover, so it should be interesting.

today was teacher appreciation day; it was NUTS.

i’m adding a page right now… it’s called “albums you should buy, download, or steal”. check it out

sleep soon… this weekend should be extremely good; i’m pumped

more death

so logan just informed me that my goldfish, thundercleese, died today

i’m just finding out because thundercleese lived in a fishbowl with logan’s goldfish, captain apache, at his house

RIP thundercleese the goldfish. november 2007-august 2008

if a bird in the house means a death in the house, what does a dead bird mean?

so i contacted acadia and i guess there was a mix-up with my statement so i still have my double room in seminary house; i don’t mind that at all because it means that i don’t have an extra $1600 thrown on my student account to me paid

so about fifteen minutes ago i was sitting in my living room on my laptop while my mom was in the dining room reading the paper (the rooms are connected); in the dining room is a bird cage where the bird my sister got for her fifth birthday (or one of those early birthdays) lives. we don’t really play with the bird, we just co-existed and with my fear of those winged heathens, i stayed away from spike the bird. so there we are sitting and we hear really frantic flapping: spike had fallen off of her perch and we thought she was just playing around or something, then the flapping stopped. the bird died.

being the jackass that i am, while the bird was flapping i jokingly go “is it dead yet?”, then when the flapped stopped, my mom pipes up with a “oh my god, it actually is dead!”

i alerted the rest of the household by saying “at least it wasn’t one of the dogs…”, and since my mom, sister, and i have been sitting out in our backyard joking about which neighbor’s lawn we could throw the bird into. i’ve also cracked a few cat-toy jokes along with a mock-voodoo alter joke or two

this is why i love my family: we are sick but loving

well, i’m not touching the beast, my dad can do that. i’m going back to my afternoon facebook lurking, then picking up tubski later tonight.

PS there’s nothing that i need to know about, and i have no idea what brand of underwear jim jones wore… i can only guess that he went commando because that dude is crazy and probably embraced the chafing

a little Q with a possible helping of A

i really like being an acadia student because they’re always sending me mail for things

today, though, i received a statement of the money that i owe them and it says that i’m living in a deluxe single room instead of the basic double the registrar’s website says i’m in; this means there’s an extra $1600 (roughly) thrown on my student account. this wouldn’t be too bad if i’m actually getting a deluxe single, but i’m currently trying to get a hold of the residence life people in hopes to get this sorted out

… does this mean i’m living in a single? is there something that i should know about? what brand of underwear did famous cult leader jim jones wear? the answer to these and other very important questions in my next post

a random, random weekend

as soon as i get my student loan ready and cashed, i need to order my books, if not i’m basically going to shrivel up and die because i will be royally screwed for the first little bit of school

my weekend has been really strange, but great; had an odd day at work on saturday which included locking my keys in my car during my first break of the day (luckily, i had left my window down a bit and my father was able to get them out using a coathanger). after working a nine hour day that went by surprisingly quick, i went home and got ready to head out to sackville. on my way into the liquor store i ran into brandon benoit, so i was tied up for a bit talking to him and such, did my purchasing, got everything i needed in line and hit the road. the weather was NASTY between grand pre and falmouth/windsor; a lot of rain and fog which made it hard for you to see two feet past the front of your car, but it got better and i got to sackville a little after 9:30 or so for tubski’s toga party… got there, got my toga on (i didn’t have any white sheets, so i wore a black toga), met a lot of random but cool people, and had an all-around good time including quite a few ventures out into the rain and taking down my litre and half of wine and them some. got up at a little after eleven in the morning, went to KFC/taco bell with tubski, steve, ryan, and tubski’s friends cody and kyle. after this, tubski and i just drove around for a while, went swimming at the fish ladder in middle sackville and just hung out there for a few hours in the sun. i came home a while later and all that i’ve done tonight is hang out with heather

hey, guess what? i’m moving out in twelve days, or should i say moving in? yeah, moving in. i guess tubski’s helping me move in, it’s going to be stellar

TWELVE DAYS, oh lordy, lordy

i have another day off, i’m going to make the best of it

quick update

today had its issues after all… well, you can never count on one day to be entirely perfect

jamie and i were talking today and he agreed to do some graffiti art for my room at acadia; the guy is REALLY talented, and i’m pumped to have him do up a few things… i’m going to have to pop by the art supply store in wolfville next week to get him some large sheets of paper for it… hells yes

turns out i’m stupid and i move out on the 30th instead of the 31st

this means it’s officially two weeks… man, i’m pumped

i need to sleep
