so this weekend was balls-out insanely good
friday was spent not doing too much, met up for coffee with heather in the evening, then hung out; drove out to sackville that night and spent the night at tubski’s with steve and ryan. we left the next morning at about 7 am for magic mountain (made a few stops along the way), but before we enjoyed any waterslides and maigcal mountains, we stopped by the huge big stop in salisbury that has all of the trucker stuff (showers, a theatre, etc.). it’s a brilliant place if i do say so myself, we snagged ourselves some free trucker bibles and scoped out the place with wonderment… it’s just as magical as it was when i went there back when i was touring with bloodletter, except this time it wasn’t three in the morning en route to montreal.
anyway, we hit magic mountain at about 10:30 or 11 and stayed until after 4 pm, rode all the waterslides, scoped out the sights/the locals (yeah, i’m a pig, so sue me. i ain’t dead, child) and grabbed some beavertails (no inuendo there, it’s a pastry); it was wicked and i’m really glad that we went. we all got kind of sunburnt but it was well worth it, even the pee-filled whirlpool that we stupidly went into for a bit… yeah.
after the water-park, we went back to salisbury to grab dinner at the big stop where we met the coolest truckstop waitress in the world named “kandy” who stole all of our hearts and took time out of waiting on tables to chat us up and bring us a phonebook so we could find a place to stay in moncton… yeah, we hadn’t figured out accomodations yet and it was set to thunder so a campground wasn’t looking too appealing; we ended up booking a room at the econo lodge in moncton and spent our evening there with a mini-keg of heineken, the olympics, and slow-jams (a considerable amount of michael franti & spearhead thanks to my iPod)… i’ve got to say that the room itself was pretty damn sketchy; it reminded us all of a horror movie
woke up the next morning, checked out and started on our way back to nova scotia, making a few stops along the way so that tubski and ryan could trespass in a cornfield, and to revisit our favourite big stop in salisbury one last time that weekend. we got back to sackville after a few wrong turns that almost landed us in cape breton, and then tubski and i went back to the valley and just hung out all evening. drove him home, went to bed, and i worked today.
i’m about to go out with dee and ty for a bit, and i’m pretty pumped… i had a great weekend and i’m pretty pumped for the toga shendig on saturday night, i’ve got to say.
by the way, because i’m pushy, i figure i’m going to throw some of my music taste onto you… here are five albums that i think you should buy/download/steal (in no particular order)… basically, this is my “what i’m listening to at the time-being” thing:
1) “the shepherd’s dog” by iron & wine
2) “midnight boom” by the kills
3) “ashtray rock” by the joel plaskett emergency
4) “get awkward” by be your own PET
5) “intimidator” by a textbook tragedy
